THE CHALLENGE INITIATIVE (TCI)

Funded by the Gates Foundation and led by the William H. Gates Institute for Population and Reproductive Health at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, TCI supports local governments in scaling high-impact practices to expand access to modern contraceptive methods, reaching urban poor communities in over 200 cities across Africa and Asia.

Since 2022, I have worked with Itad as a Principal Investigator, leading an impact evaluation of TCI’s efforts to increase women’s adoption of modern contraception. Using Interrupted Time Series (ITS) analysis and health systems data, this study measures contraceptive uptake and assesses TCI’s impact. Now in its final year, my team and I are focused on strengthening routine contraceptive data, refining analysis, and ensuring findings support the work of the Gates Foundation’s largest investment in family planning.
